Sony ST-6036 test drive after service, repair and cleaning
Переглядів 486Рік тому
This Sony receiver has been repaired, serviced and cleaned by Second Life Audio (Netherlands) so it will be good to go for another five to ten years. These specific Sony models often suffer from issues due to corrosive glue on the pcb's, which will destroy electrolytic capacitors and metal parts from transistors, resistors, jumpers etc. In this case one channel stopped working due to the damage...

    The blckface is badass looking With the silver knobs and white backing meters. I just got a really clean sa600 all original. I just had to deoxit the volume pot and she was ready. Most of the power is in the first quarter of the volume knob it seems and then it dies off. Alot of manufacturers like to do this. Although the sa700 spreads a little higher over quarter turn.

    Un bel album aux guitares élégantes...voix et violon forment un ensemble incantatoire et envoûtant... Moins dramatique et puissant que Yeti, mais un très bon double album... J'adore les titres de la face 4...

    nice receiver; I love these nostalgic ones; am about to buy a used one... What kind / size of loudspeaker would you recommend?

    • @simcha2012
      @simcha2012 Місяць тому

      That question is very difficult to answer properly, it so much depends on room acoustics and taste. In general, for this receiver, preferably speakers with a sensitivity of around 88dB or higher and 8 ohms impedance would be best. Maximum power matters less, as long as you do not play it so loud as to hear distortion.

    I bought and still have one of these, picked it up in Germany at Mainz-Kastel while in the Air Force. One minor difference with mine is its voltage selectable on the back 110-240v. I put a small computer case fan on the top vent slots to help with heat dissipation. It’s in the bottom of a rack with poor ventilation, so anything helps. The major reason I bought mine was because it had discrete components for the outputs as opposed to the STK packs that a lot of manufacturers were using at the time. For 1987-88, for its price it punches above its class.

      It's a great amp. Cooling it additionally is not a bad idea, still, if not done before, it wouldn't harm to have the pcb's (especially the main amp part) checked on loose solder joints, this is what kills most amps from this era.

      A rebuild does not alter the original sound it had when factory new, apart from getting it back to specs. I do not alter circuits to "enhance" the sound, this is good enough as was intented by the factory.

    You shouldn't put anything on this amp .. it's a Class AA amp, it produces a lot of heat, so by doing this, you possibly overheat the internal circuits, and torture your turntable with hot air, which isn't a good thing either .. no, it's not a good idea .. and finally, you should use better interconnect RCA cables too, your amp deserves that.

    Fantastic piece, which maybe sets the bar too high for the rest of the album. Almost wouldn't seem out of place on Steve Vai's Flexable album. The last two minutes appears to predict things like the more out there sections of Packard Goose by the great FZ.

    As we can hear, this amp good working. But this amp has a same problem which problem have every Denons... When you turning to a bass potmeter to plus, we can hear a minimal differents or no different... because this amply (and all Denon) add a plus in 100 Hz...100 Hz = Box-sound... We can see it it any other Denon's vids, owners turning up and down the potmeters, but never the bass... Yes, if you have a very good source all of Denon can sounds good. But this true for any other commerce amplifyers... All Denons are overrated... But this is my opinion... and I know all of things in this theme is subjective. Denons are not enough good but they are expensives... as we can see it in here...

      Denon PMA1560 is durmus bass masterpiece, first of all very important speakers pair, due to neutral timbre it pairing very well with brighter tendency speakers, ( neutralizes them...). A fully restored pice has also a smooth voice and refined/detailed highs and a very nice holographic sound for a transistor amplifier. The bass drops very low it gives the feeling that it has a boost, but it is not the case !

    The SA-700, 800 and 1000 were beautifully designed. From when I first saw one in 1978, I always wanted a SA-1000. I was a teen in ‘78 and couldn’t afford one. Now I see them going for $5k to $15k and can’t justify getting one. I bought a much-neglected SA-700 a few months ago for $400 + shipping. Bulbs were burned out. The inside was oily and extremely dusty. I’ve seen 20-year-old weed eaters that looked better. Anyhow, took it all apart, cleaned it thoroughly (don’t ask, but it is very clean now), replaced bulbs, fuses, etc., and cleaned every contact with DeoxiT. It works great. Sound is still very good, and no problems with it at all.

    Классный аппарат, звучит огонь 🔥 даже через Ютуб чувствуется, середина с гитарой шикарная. На вид тоже брутально смотрится, насколько знаю он топовый в своей линейке(1560,1060,860) у меня из этой же серии только классом ниже PMA - 860 91г. Разные были модели усилителей наши , импортные на STK и транзисторные,в итоге остановился на вторых по звучанию на мой слух понравились больше 🔥. С 860 пока расставаться не собираюсь, из всех что были он зашёл больше всех . До него ( Ямаха Ах-590, Техниксы Su V 620, Su A-800 на stk и Пионер А 656, остальные наши Электроника 017, Пульсар 001, Эстония УП и ум 010...). За видео жирный лайк , 1560 огонь 🔥👍.

      I think most of these receivers - the bigger ones at least - existing nowadays here in Europe were sold at army exchanges. The European versions (very rare!) did not have the wooden top and side panels, the US versions also always had a US mains plug and mostly an FEE "country" coding in the serial number. The big difference between US and US Army versions is the additional 220/240 Volt option for the US Army versions, so that they could be used here in Europe.
